The Belgian freelancer’s 13-week cash-flow forecast

11 September 20265 min readBy the Counzel team

A cash forecast is not a tax return or a promise of what will happen. It is a practical way to see the decisions that may be waiting before your bank balance makes them urgent.

Most small companies see their bank balance every day but not the next three months. A 13-week view turns open invoices, expected customer payments and known commitments into a weekly operating picture.

What belongs in the forecast

  • Confirmed receivables, grouped by expected payment week.
  • Payroll, rent, supplier payments and recurring subscriptions.
  • Known VAT, tax and financing events—marked for review where the amount or timing is uncertain.
  • Scenario decisions, such as a late-paying client or a planned hire.

Use it to start better conversations

The value is not a false precision number. It is an earlier question: should a payment be chased, an expense moved, or the accountant consulted before a tax or remuneration decision?

Keep the forecast linked to the books, update it each week and distinguish actual cash from assumptions. That makes the view useful without pretending it can replace professional advice.
